Job Description The Times Graphics team is looking for an experienced reporter and data specialist who can gather and analyze data to develop new lines of reporting for graphics and visual stories. Data underpins all of our work, and a creative approach to gathering and analyzing data has played a role in many of our high-profile news and investigative projects in recent years, including an analysis of Tucker Carlson’s show, a look at the use of force by the Minneapolis police, a series of visualizations showing the vaccine disparities by race and many others. This graphics editor will report, analyze data and develop databases to create a variety of visualizations. You will work with fellow reporters, designers and editors to create visual projects for breaking news and enterprise subjects on all platforms. You will pursue original reporting and will be expected to exercise journalistic and visual judgment to ensure the accuracy and clarity of their work. In your application, please provide examples of your work that show creativity in the use of data to report and tell stories. Requirements: Expert data analysis skills using programming languages such as R, Python, or SQL. Demonstrated ability to pitch, report, write and file news stories on deadline. Expertise in building, using and maintaining ambitious and rigorous databases to cover the news. Familiarity with visual and interactive design, with a clear grasp of typography, layout, color, motion and user behavior. Ability to meet deadlines and to adapt to change in a daily, unpredictable news production environment. Experience working collaboratively with members of a multidisciplinary team.
