The Secretariat of the WTO is seeking to fill two positions of Data Analyst in the Market Access Intelligence Section (MAIS) and the International Trade Statistics Section (ITSS) of the Economic Research and Statistics Division. MAIS and ITSS support WTO Members and the Secretariat with trade and trade policy data and analysis related to economic and trade policy issues. They are the principal suppliers of WTO merchandise and services trade statistics and trade policy data through WTO online databases and related tools, statistical publications, and analytical reports. Furthermore, MAIS and ITSS provide Members with technical assistance on notifications submissions and methodological concepts. General Functions Reporting to and under the close supervision of a senior statistician respectively in each Section, the incumbent will undertake the following tasks: 1. In MAIS, contribute to the update and maintenance of the WTO tariff databases – the Integrated Data Base (IDB) and the Consolidated Tariff Schedules (CTS). In ITSS, contribute to the update, expansion, and integration of the Trade in Services by Mode of Supply (TiSMoS) and the Balanced Trade in Services (BaTiS) analytical datasets. 2. Collecting, processing, and disseminating tariffs and other market access or trade-related information/statistics to support the WTO system needs. 3. Perform data analysis and interpret the results for reports and other research projects. 4. Support the development and maintenance of data management systems and applications to automate existing manual processes, optimize data and redesign infrastructure for greater scalability for the IDB and CTS or the TiSMoS and BaTiS datasets. 5. Participate in technical assistance activities for WTO Members and other stakeholders. 6. Provide other statistical support as required. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS Education: Advanced university degree in statistics, computer science, data science, mathematics, or other related disciplines. Knowledge and Skills: Technical knowledge and skills: Strong programming skills and proficiency in R, Python or SAS; skills for managing SQL databases; experience or proficiency in other data science-related software packages or tools is an asset. Excellent knowledge of statistical concepts and applied statistical skills; ability to interpret and present statistical outputs in a simple and convincing manner. Excellent data processing, analysing and visualization skills; understanding of machine learning techniques and algorithms; experience in developing analytic dashboards and digital visualization with Tableau, Power BI or similar tools. Experience in big data technology and cloud computing platforms is a plus. A sound knowledge of international merchandise trade and services trade statistics, and WTO market access related concepts is a plus.
