Submissions will open on August 25, 2022 and close on September 18, 2022.

The Awards ceremony will take place on November 30, 2022 in Washington, D.C. in the United States.

Learn more about category descriptions, and about the nominations and submissions process in our FAQs.

Entries should be based on data (qualitative and/or quantitative) and have visual components.

Beyond that, we welcome entries of any type, such as infographics, data journalism, maps, interactives, information art, video, animation, app, site, sculpture, or artwork. Entries can be created in any software, platform, or medium, using any type of materials.

The 2022 Awards have ten categories open for submission:

For each submission, submitters must select at least one category where the work will be considered and may select up to three categories for consideration. If in doubt regarding the appropriate category, please reference the list of category descriptions. We may recategorize entries where recommended by the judging panel.

Work created between September 1, 2019 and August 31, 2022 (and not previously entered or nominated into the Awards) is eligible for entry, accounting for the Awards being paused for 2020 and 2021. We want to recognize the exceptional work created during that period.

Entry Each entry must be a separate piece of work. The work can be in any medium (static image, web interactive, app, even sculpture or food) and can be created using any platform or package. Multiple visualizations (charts, maps, interactives) presented in one summary product (article, dashboard, installation, etc.) would be considered to be a single piece of work for the purpose of submission. You may enter as many pieces as you like with a fee paid each time.

Creators of books, sculptures and physical objects please be aware that our judges are based around the world and there is a public voting round, so we accept submissions in digital form only. Use photos, videos or other media to capture the essence of your work.
